The Neuroscience major offers two tracks: the Molecular, Cellular, and Physiological (MCP) track and the Behavioral and Cognitive (BC) Track). Once a Neuroscience major has completed Benchmark 1 requirements they become eligible to declare either the Molecular, Cellular and Physiological (MCP) or Behavioral and Cognitive (BC) track. Incoming Neuroscience majors have the major code 04250. The Molecular, Cellular and Physiological (MCP) track runs through the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences (CMNS) and the Behavioral and Cognitive (BC) track runs through College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS).
You must declare your track no later than the semester before you graduate. You can always change your mind and switch tracks up to the semester before you graduate.
Ultimately, every NEUR major graduates with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience. Both colleges are listed on your diploma and your track is only listed on your transcript. However, your track will determine which college's graduation ceremony you attend and who you contact for potential college-level exceptions to policy. You have access to all courses, no matter which track you declare as long as you meet their prerequisites.
DECLARE THE BEHAVIORAL COGNITIVE TRACK (0425B)
In order to declare the BC track, please complete the BSOS Change of major form and email it to neuradvising [at] umd.edu along with an updated graduation plan. We will submit these documents to BSOS on your behalf. Your degree audit on uAchieve will be updated to Neuroscience: Behavioral and Cognitive once your request has been processed.
DECLARE THE MOLECULAR, CELLULAR, and PHYSIOLOGICAL TRACK (0425M)
In order to declare the MCP track, please complete the electronic CMNS Change of Major/Track form via TerpEngage. CMNS will follow up via TerpEngage when the change has been processed. Questions about this form may be directed to cmnsque [at] umd.edu.
